About Alva Skates

Alva Skates is a name synonymous with skateboarding history, and has left an indelible mark on the sport.

Founded by the legendary skateboarder Tony Alva in 1977, the 70s skateboard brand emerged during a pivotal era when skateboarding was transitioning from a fringe hobby to a cultural phenomenon.

Tony Alva’s vision was revolutionary: create a skateboard company owned and operated by skateboarders themselves. At a time when few "skate" brands were dedicated exclusively to skateboarding, Alva Skates filled a void. The first deck, released in 1977, featured Alva’s iconic logo die-cut into glittering grip tape, and set against a gradient of yellow and orange paint. This skate deck, known as the “Alva Flame”, became quintessential to the 70s skateboarding scene, and a symbol of rebellion and authenticity, which is what Alva Skates was all about!

"I grew up skating in the westside of LA this video is a major stoke to me being hyped on how i spent my time most def video reminds me of skating with jeff hartsel in Venice ,or my modeling shoot in venice when i board slide the huge venice hubba on an alva 9.25 with santa cruz wheels riser pads like the boards in this video board sliding the WLA world savings rail on smaller boards I don't consider technical i consider that evolution of skateboarding will say the old boards lasted longer for skating vertical spots i agree with everyone who skates fast with surf style guys like dennis busenitz.....aloha to what TONY ALVA does for skateboarding...TOM ROONEY"
