In the ever-evolving world of skateboarding, few brands have emerged with as much theatrical flair and raw authenticity as Opera Skateboards. Born from the ashes of industry upheaval, Opera is more than just a company—it’s a statement, a performance, and a tribute to the individuality of skateboarding itself.
Opera Skateboards was founded in 2023 by Bill Weiss, a veteran of the skate industry and former head of Madness Skateboards. After the collapse of Dwindle Distribution, which had long been home to brands like Enjoi and Madness, Weiss teamed up with Louie Barletta, Bod Boyle, and Steve Douglas to form Sidewalk Distribution. This new umbrella would house Opera, alongside Slappy Trucks and Jacuzzi Unlimited.
The name “Opera” wasn’t chosen lightly. Weiss was inspired by the concept of opera as “a performance of one”—a poetic metaphor for skateboarding’s deeply personal yet communal nature. The brand embraces the drama, storytelling, and mischievous spirit of operatic art, infusing it into its identity and design.
Opera Skateboards quickly made waves with its commitment to high-quality construction, distinctive shapes, and visually striking graphics. Their decks often feature bold, theatrical imagery—masks, surreal collages, and symbolic motifs that echo the brand’s operatic theme.
But Opera isn’t just about aesthetics. It’s about core skate culture, and that’s reflected in their approach to team building and product development. They’re not chasing trends—they’re crafting a legacy.
Opera’s team is stacked with talent, blending seasoned pros with rising stars:
Clay Kreiner
Jack Fardell
Sam Beckett
Trey Wood
Alex Perelson
Nick Papa
Jedd McKenzie
Jeff Rasp
Caroline Duerr
Hinano Kusaki
Ema
George O’Neill
And most recently, Sora Shirai joined the Opera family after his victory at Tampa Pro 2025, one of the most prestigious contests in skateboarding. His addition signals Opera’s growing influence and commitment to supporting elite talent.
Opera has already released several standout skate videos, including:
Act 2 (2023) – A promo featuring the core team
Tap The Rockies (2024) – A visually rich journey through skate terrain
NOMAD (2025) – A solo part by Nassim Lachhab, showcasing Opera’s storytelling chops
These videos aren’t just clips—they’re cinematic expressions of skateboarding’s artistry.
As of 2025, Opera Skateboards is thriving. Their online store features a wide range of decks, many of which sell out quickly, reflecting strong demand. They continue to push boundaries in design and storytelling, while staying true to their roots in core skateboarding.
With a solid distribution network, a passionate team, and a clear artistic vision, Opera is poised to become one of the defining brands of this new era in skateboarding.
