In the gritty heart of Manhattan’s Lower East Side, where the streets buzzed with raw energy and the skate scene thrived in defiance of convention, a new kind of skateboard company was born. Rock Star Bearings (RSB) didn’t emerge from a corporate boardroom—it was sparked by a beer-fueled conversation between two visionaries in a dive bar called The Green Room.
The year was 2000. Harold Hunter, a beloved icon of New York skateboarding, approached Adrian, the owner of the legendary core skate shop ABC—named after its location in Alphabet City—with a simple but powerful idea: “Let’s make a company together.” At the time, Harold was riding for Zoo York, a brand that already made decks, apparel, and accessories. But one thing they didn’t touch? Hardware.
That was the opening. Bearings, tools, and the nuts and bolts of skateboarding—literally. Four hours and several beers later, the name was born: Rock Star Bearings. “Cause that’s what we are, fool!” Harold exclaimed. And just like that, RSB was launched from the back door of ABC, with a mission to build something that belonged to the skaters, by the skaters.
Rock Star Bearings quickly carved out a niche by focusing on high-quality skateboard hardware. They offered:
Swiss and ceramic bearings built for speed and durability
Ratchet tools in bold colors
Collaborations with pro skaters like Richie Jackson and Dannie Carlsen
Accessories like grip cleaners, wax, and bottle opener keychains
But RSB wasn’t just about gear—it was about community. Harold’s vision extended beyond skateboarding. He wanted to reach kids who had never stepped on a board, to build a culture that was inclusive, rebellious, and real.
RSB has proudly sponsored a diverse roster of skaters over the years, including:
Richie Jackson, known for his eccentric and creative skating style
Dannie Carlsen, a European powerhouse with technical finesse
Raul Navarro and others through limited-edition bearing collaborations
They’ve also supported events like the Street Art Expo, blending skateboarding with urban art and culture. Their presence in these spaces reflects their commitment to the underground and the authentic.
Rock Star Bearings is still rolling strong. In 2023, they launched a Europe Tour featuring a vibrant crew of skaters including Silvia Kambouridis, Jammalyn Flower, and Tiara Marelis. The tour showcased not just tricks and talent, but the spirit of community and creativity that RSB has always championed.
Their products are distributed globally—from the U.S. to Australia, Europe, China, and South America. And they continue to innovate with new tools, accessories, and collaborations that keep the brand fresh and relevant.
