Ed Nadalin’s journey is one of passion, skill, and an enduring love for movement. Born in Ridgecrest, California in 1955, he grew up in the Mojave Desert, a place known for its vast landscapes and open skies. His introduction to skating came in 1968 when he saw the Hobie team on television. Inspired by their effortless style, he picked up his first board—a Hobie Super Surfer with clay wheels—and began carving his own path.
By the mid-1970s, his talent was undeniable. He turned professional in 1975, representing brands like Hobie, Speed Springs, Power Paw, and California Pro. His competitive streak was fierce, securing first-place finishes at major events such as the Hang Ten World Pro Am and the Belmont South Bay Open. The following year, he continued his winning streak at the Northern California Pro-Am and the California State Championships.
Beyond competitions, his presence was felt in magazines and media. He was featured in publications, had his own bubble gum card, and even made an appearance in The Magic Rolling Board, a segment in Five Summer Stories. His style was fluid, his tricks precise, and his ability to captivate an audience unmatched.
As the 1980s approached, his professional career began to wind down. In 1982, he moved to Rome, Italy, where he embraced new experiences, skating ramps and enjoying slalom with friends. His time in Europe led to a television commercial appearance for Jeans West, further cementing his influence beyond the competitive scene.
By 1989, he had transitioned into a new chapter, working as an assistant film editor in Rome. Today, he resides in Carson City, Nevada, balancing freelance video and film editing with part-time jobs at a garden center and a wellness center. His love for creativity remains strong—he enjoys playing his Guild 12-string acoustic guitar, cooking, and listening to music.
Ed Nadalin’s legacy is one of innovation and dedication. His journey from the deserts of California to the streets of Rome and beyond is a testament to the power of passion and perseverance. Though his professional days may be behind him, his influence continues to inspire generations.
