Born on November 18, 1985, in Toulon, France, Bastien Salabanzi is a name that resonates deeply within the skateboarding community. Known for his regular stance and electrifying style, Bastien's journey into the world of skateboarding began at the age of 9. A chance encounter with a skateboard sparked a passion that would soon define his life.
Bastien's talent was evident from the start. By the age of 11, he had already won his first contest in Marseille, France. This victory marked the beginning of a meteoric rise. His skills caught the attention of the Toulon Skateshop, which became his first sponsor. Shortly after, Vans recognized his potential and flew him to California for the finals of a major competition—his first trip to the United States.
The early 2000s were a golden era for Bastien. At just 15 years old, he clinched the World Cup in Dortmund (Globe Shoes World Skateboarding Championships) not once, but three times consecutively in 2001, 2002, and 2003. His prowess wasn't limited to one event; he also secured top positions in prestigious competitions like the Tampa AM 2001 Street Finals and the Tampa Pro 2004 Street Finals.
Bastien's talent wasn't confined to competitions. He became a prominent figure in the skateboarding world, known for his innovative tricks and fearless approach. His sponsors over the years included Flip Skateboards, Primitive Skateboards, and several others that recognized his unparalleled skills.
Like many prodigies, Bastien faced his share of challenges. Around 2006, he parted ways with several sponsors and returned to France. This period saw a decline in his competitive appearances, but Bastien's love for skateboarding never waned. By 2008, he made a triumphant return, winning the Globe Metz Master contest with a stunning caballerial double flip.
In 2012, Bastien joined the Street League Skateboarding circuit after winning a video part competition. His debut year saw him achieve impressive rankings, including a second-place finish in Kansas City.
Bastien's career is studded with remarkable achievements. From winning the Mystic Skate Cup in Prague to placing third in the 2004 X Games, his contributions to skateboarding are legendary. Beyond competitions, Bastien has inspired countless skaters with his dedication, resilience, and creativity.
Today, Bastien continues to skate and share his passion with others. Whether coaching aspiring skaters or showcasing his skills at iconic spots like La République in Paris, he remains a vibrant part of the skateboarding community.
