Rick McCrank is a name that resonates deeply within the skateboarding community. Known for his smooth yet powerful style, McCrank has carved out a legacy that spans decades, influencing generations of skaters with his technical prowess and effortless flow.
Born on January 23, 1976, in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, Rick McCrank grew up in Ottawa, Ontario. Like many skateboarders, his journey began in the streets, where he honed his skills and developed a passion for the sport. His first deck sponsor was Cherry Bombs, a small Canadian brand that helped launch his career.
McCrank’s big break came when he was discovered by professional skateboarder Colin McKay, who invited him to join Plan B Skateboards. This opportunity propelled him into the professional skateboarding scene, setting the stage for an illustrious career.
Throughout his career, McCrank has been associated with some of the most prestigious brands in skateboarding. After his time with Plan B, he briefly joined Birdhouse, appearing in the 1998 video The End. He later became a team member of Girl Skateboards, a brand he continues to represent.
McCrank also made his mark in the footwear industry, designing several signature skate shoe models for éS Footwear, including the popular éS "Anti-Social" model. Following éS’s hiatus, he was seen skating in Lakai shoes before eventually joining the Vans skate team in 2020.
Beyond sponsorships, McCrank co-founded Anti-Social Skateshop in Vancouver, a hub for the local skate scene. He also co-owns Momentum Wheels, a skateboard wheel company, alongside former Bones Brigade pro Kevin Harris.
McCrank’s competitive career is nothing short of legendary. He holds one of the highest-ever scores in a street skateboarding competition, earning 99.67 at ESPN’s 2000 Grand Prix. His contest victories include:

McCrank’s influence extends beyond the skatepark. He has acted in films such as Harvey Spannos (2006) and Machotaildrop (2009). His television career includes hosting Abandoned, a series that premiered on the Viceland network in 2016, and Post Radical, which aired in 2018.
In 2019, McCrank was part of a group of skateboard industry veterans who spoke at the Pushing Boarders conference in Malmö, Sweden, discussing the future of skateboarding and its cultural impact.
