TJ Rogers is one of those rare skateboarders whose story goes far beyond tricks and contests. His journey is a testament to grit, creativity, and an unshakable love for skateboarding. Let’s dive into the life and legacy of this Canadian powerhouse.
Full Name: TJ Rogers
Born: October 26, 1991
Hometown: Whitby, Ontario, Canada
Stance: Regular
TJ’s skateboarding journey began in 1999 at a skatepark during an audio demo. At the time, he was riding a bike, but after being told by pros to ditch the wheels and grab a board, he did just that—and never looked back. His first board was a white Santa Cruz deck with a red logo, gifted by his grandmother. He even repainted it every time it got scratched to keep it looking fresh.
Growing up in Canada, TJ had to be resourceful to get noticed. Before social media made it easier to showcase talent, he relied on pure skill and hustle. He was inspired by local skaters who were getting sponsored and traveling, which made him realize that skateboarding could be more than just a hobby—it could be a career.
TJ is known for his smooth, technical street skating. His style blends precision with creativity, and he’s especially recognized for:
Kickflips with serious pop
Nollie flips into and out of grinds
Switch tre flips with flawless execution
Manual combos that showcase his board control
He’s the kind of skater who makes difficult tricks look effortless, and his consistency in contests proves it.
TJ has earned the backing of some major brands, including:
Red Bull
SK8MAFIA
éS Footwear
Bones Wheels
Jessup Griptape
Quantum Bearings
Tech Deck
His pro model decks with SK8MAFIA are a reflection of his personality—clean, stylish, and built for performance.
TJ’s video sections are a masterclass in street skating. Some standout parts include:
“Keep Smiling” (2023): Released after his battle with cancer, this part is both inspiring and technically brilliant.
Red Bull Solus: A solo run that showcases his creativity and flow.
Various Street League and Dew Tour clips: His contest footage is packed with high-level tricks and clutch performances.
In 2022, just after his 30th birthday, TJ was diagnosed with testicular cancer. He underwent surgery and chemotherapy, and remarkably, returned to competition in 2023. His openness about the experience has made him a role model for resilience and self-care. He encourages others to listen to their bodies and seek help when needed.
