In the world of skateboarding, few names command as much respect and admiration as Tyshawn Jones. Born on December 24, 1998, in Manhattan, New York, Jones grew up splitting his childhood between New Jersey and The Bronx. His journey into skateboarding began at the age of 10, when he first played the video game Skate with his brother and uncle. Inspired, he purchased his first skateboard from a local Target, unknowingly setting himself on a path to greatness.
Jones’ early years in skateboarding were defined by persistence and an unrelenting drive to improve. After moving back to The Bronx, he found himself skating more due to a lack of friends, which ultimately fueled his competitive spirit. Watching legendary skate videos, particularly Andrew Reynolds’ Baker 3 part, became a ritual for him—rewinding and studying every trick with an obsessive passion.
Jones’ first taste of sponsorship came when he was placed on flow sponsorship for Toy Machine, but his real breakthrough happened in 2011, when he met Jason Dill, the founder of Fucking Awesome. Dill was immediately impressed by Jones’ raw talent, leading to a sponsorship deal that would propel him into the professional ranks. His unique style and explosive energy soon caught the attention of Supreme, landing him a spot in their 2014 skate video, Cherry, directed by Bill Strobeck.
Jones’ career skyrocketed from there. In 2014, he co-founded Hardies Hardware, a skate hardware and apparel company, alongside fellow skater Na-Kel Smith. That same year, he signed with Adidas, making his debut in their full-length skate video, Away Days. His first signature Adidas colorway dropped in 2017, cementing his place as one of the most influential skaters of his generation.
In 2018, Jones released one of the most talked-about skate parts of the year in Supreme’s BLESSED, opening with a jaw-dropping switch flip into the fountain at Washington Square Park. This performance earned him the prestigious Thrasher Skater of the Year award at just 19 years old. He would go on to win the award again in 2022, solidifying his status as one of the greatest street skaters of all time.
In 2022, Jones made a bold move by leaving Fucking Awesome to start his own skateboard company, King Skateboards. His influence on the skateboarding world continues to grow, inspiring a new generation of skaters with his fearless style, business acumen, and unwavering dedication to the craft.
Tyshawn Jones is more than just a skateboarder—he’s a movement, a force of nature, and a testament to what happens when passion meets perseverance. His story is far from over, and the skateboarding world eagerly awaits his next chapter.
