About Anarchic Adjustment Clothing

Anarchic Adjustment was a post-punk streetwear brand that emerged from the vibrant London scene in 1986. The brand's unique designs were inspired by the rebellious spirit of the era.

It was founded by Nick Philip, an artist, fashion designer, and graphic design pioneer who also helped out with the design of influential RAD (Read and Destroy) skateboard/bmx magazine. Nick Philip's diverse background in art, fashion design, and graphic design made him a unique and influential figure during the late 80s/90s.

Anarchic Adjustment gained global recognition thanks to the efforts of entrepreneur and designer Alan Brown and Charles Uzzell Edwards. Their paths crossed when Philip moved to San Francisco and became part of the skateboarding and BMX culture in Southern California, where the Anarchic Adjustment brand truly took off.

Anarchic Adjustment was noted for its cut-and-paste style graphics, frequently showcasing Akira bootleg graphics and subliminal messages.

While it had already gained prominence in the UK and the US during the 1990s, it was in Japan that Anarchic Adjustment achieved cult status. Entrepreneur Joi Ito played a pivotal role in this by opening two stores—one in Tokyo in 1994 and another inside the American Village Parco Store in Osaka.

Influential figures in the streetwear world, including Hiroshi Fujiwara and DJ Towa Tei, endorsed the brand.

Nick Philip’s work stood out due to its irreverent and sometimes outrageous aesthetics. Anarchic Adjustment catered to outsiders—those immersed in street culture without necessarily aligning with a single movement.

The brand’s uniqueness and refusal to compromise with trends contributed to its slow decline. Nick Philips created it for the sheer joy of it, leaving behind a strong and indelible legacy in the contemporary streetwear scene.
