In the early 2000s, when skateboarding was surging into mainstream culture and streetwear was beginning to define youth fashion, a brand emerged from Southern California that would leave a lasting mark on both worlds. KR3W Denim, founded in 2002 by Angel Cabada in Fountain Valley, California, was more than just a clothing label—it was a movement.
Angel Cabada was no stranger to the skate scene. Before KR3W, he was involved with TSA Clothing, a beloved '90s skate brand. With KR3W, Cabada sought to create apparel that reflected the gritty, rebellious spirit of skateboarding while elevating the quality and style of denim. The brand quickly became synonymous with the Southern California skate lifestyle, blending raw authenticity with fashion-forward design.
KR3W made waves by popularizing the skinny jean silhouette among skaters—a bold move at the time. Their K Slim Denim line, crafted with stretch fabric and a narrow profile, challenged the baggy norms of skate fashion and helped usher in a new era of fitted streetwear. KR3W wasn’t just making jeans; they were redefining what skate apparel could look like.
Beyond denim, KR3W expanded into graphic tees, chinos, hoodies, and accessories, all infused with a “Dark Americana” aesthetic. Their pieces resonated not only with skaters but also with fans of hip-hop and streetwear, creating crossover appeal that few skate brands had achieved.
KR3W built a formidable skate team, sponsoring legends like Tom Penny, Erik Ellington, and Chewy Cannon. These riders weren’t just brand ambassadors—they were style icons whose influence extended far beyond the skatepark. KR3W’s sponsorships helped cement its reputation as a brand that understood and respected skateboarding’s roots while pushing its boundaries.
After years of success, KR3W underwent a transformation. Now operating under the umbrella of K-Swiss Global Brands, the company has refocused on its denim heritage. The brand recently celebrated its 20th anniversary by returning to its roots, with Angel Cabada and his original crew once again steering the ship.
Today, KR3W continues to produce high-quality denim and apparel, including standout pieces like the No.11 Selvedge Chino—crafted from Japanese raw denim and designed for both style and skate functionality. Their collections remain true to their founding ethos: never settle, always evolve.
KR3W isn’t just surviving in the ever-shifting landscape of fashion and skatewear—it’s thriving by staying authentic, innovative, and unapologetically bold.
