About Osiris Skate Shoes

Osiris Shoes was founded in 1996 in California by a group of passionate skateboarders and industry insiders.

The visionary minds behind Osiris include:
Tony Magnusson: A Swedish skater with a keen eye for design.
Brian Reid: A creative skateboarder who played a pivotal role in shaping the brand.
Tony Chen: Another key founder who contributed to Osiris’ inception.
Doug Weston: Part of the team that recognized a gap in the market for pro-designed and endorsed skate footwear.

Before October 2014, Osiris sponsored not only skateboarders but also BMX riders and surfers.

One of the most iconic shoes associated with Osiris is the D3, which gained immense popularity.
D3 Design: The D3 was a collaborative effort. Dave Mayhew designed the shoe’s upper, while Brian Reid crafted the D3’s lower and rear.
The D3’s design was inspired by a shopping trip with Dave Mayhew. During this outing, they purchased athletic shoes and a hiking boot, which influenced the shoe’s unique look.
D3 2001: The second version of the D3 became a sensation. Its chunky silhouette and bold styling captured the skateboarding zeitgeist.
D3 NTX: Osiris later released a lighter and less bulky version called the D3 NTX.

The D3’s impact extended beyond skateboarding, influencing subsequent designs like the D3 4.0 and even a D3 Snowboarding boot.

Osiris’ commitment to innovation and performance made it a go-to brand for skateboarders worldwide.

The Osiris D3 became a cultural phenomenon, transcending its functional purpose to become a style statement. The brand’s shoes often featured bold colorways, intricate patterns, and distinctive branding.

Osiris’ influence extended beyond footwear, as it played a role in shaping skateboarding aesthetics during the late '90s and early 2000s.

While the D3 remains iconic, Osiris continued to evolve, adapting to changing trends and maintaining its relevance in the skateboarding community.

Osiris Shoes emerged from a passion for skateboarding, and its legacy through the skateboard videos below, lives on!

The Osiris D3: The Most Controversial Skate Shoe
"The Osiris D3 is one of the most successful yet divisive skate shoes of all time. The shoe was adored by the masses, but was also considered ugly and impractical by many skateboarding purists. It’s unsurprising that the story behind the creation of the Osiris D3 has just as much drama as the shoe itself. VICE met creators of the Osiris D3 to learn how the notorious sneaker came to be and the fallout that resulted in the wake of its success."

100 Kickflips in the Osiris D3 Shoes
"The Osiris D3 Shoes are one of the most talked about, mythologized, and arguably, most durable skate shoes ever designed. The layers of reinforced materials, stitching, padding, and rubber are all telltale signs of the late 90’s early 2000’s skate shoe industry.

When they were first introduced in 2000, the puffy, oversized style the D3's are so well known for were par for the course. The puffy, D3 “tanks” were quickly adopted by skateboarders, ravers, and high-school kids across America, and quickly became one of the best selling skate shoe on the market. Today, we have the distinct pleasure of introducing (or reacquainting you) to the very same shoe, the Osiris 2001 D3, via the 100 Kickflip Wear Test."

"This video is dope as fuck. I was 13 when the D3's came out and literally all my friends had these shoes. I didn't want to be like everyone else and had Osiris Targas which were just as ridiculously big. Extra props for playing the songs from Osirs' "The Storm" team video that came out around this time."

"I've skated since 1997 and almost all skate shoes were poofy back then but these were about twice as poofy as most shoes. They looked ridiculous on your feet even back then when everyone was wearing baggy pants. One positive thing I will say though is that I miss how unique skate shoes were back then. Compared to most of today's shoes, the quality was way better in that era. Which is weird because if anything you'd think shoes would've gotten better but they haven't. In most cases, they've devolved into garbage and kids these days are brainwashed into thinking you have to have paper thin shoes with zero cushioning to feel the board.

The fact is you don't have to sacrifice board feel for comfort. The 'eS Accels (OG) are a perfect example of this. Basically all skate shoes were like those. You could feel the board well, they were durable and you likely wouldn't get a heel bruise skating in them. Can't say the same for most shoes today.

With that said though these D3s are an exception. There is no board feel in those shoes and so kids today think that shoe was the standard back then. It was not. That's part of the reason the shoe became so infamous because it was unlike any other shoe in that era. People loved or hated them. They were mostly hated by hardcore skaters because aside from their durability they weren't good shoes to skate in. They became so popular mostly because people who didn't skate started buying them in the malls."

What’s Inside the Most Controversial Skate Shoe - Osiris D3
"Osiris D3 2001 Review - The most controversial skate shoe and one of the most iconic and popular skate shoes ever is the Osiris D3. There is a lot of drama surrounding this shoe because of a collab shoe done by ASAP Rocky and who really designed the Osiris D3.

In this video we’re are going to quickly go over the drama and more importantly see what’s inside of D3.

About Osiris: Established in 1996, Osiris Shoes has grown into one of the biggest names in skate footwear.

Osiris exploded onto the core skateboarding scene in 1999 with innovative and influential designs.

All of the Osiris shoes are designed and tested by a diverse and influential team of professional skateboarders. Clint Peterson, John Rattray, Corey Duffel, Diego Bucchieri, and Caswell Berry are just a few of the skaters that help make Osiris one of the most recognized and respected skate brands around."

"What I remember back then was that the original D3s got popular in Southern California (specifically San Diego) after Osiris started liquidating their stock for sale. When they were at regular retail prices, nobody had them. Then they suddenly became ubiquitous in low-income communities, because they gave them away for near-free at skate and surf shops. And then everybody had/wanted them. The customary thing to do was once they were worn and battered, was to cut the tongue off your old pair, so that you could slide them behind the tongue of your next D3s to make them look even puffier."
