About Schmitt Stix Skateboards

Schmitt Stix Skateboards, was founded by skateboard craftsman Paul Schmitt, and has a fascinating and unique history that spans several decades.

Paul Schmitt, also known as “The Professor,” or "Professor Schmitt" started skating in 1973 on a clay-wheeled skateboard he acquired for a mere $3. Later, he invested $20 in his very own board with urethane wheels.

In 1977, skateparks began to emerge, and ramps and bowls became the focus of the sport. During this time, Paul created wooden rails called Schmitt Stix Rails out of wood and fiberglass to prevent breakage. These rails gained popularity among local skaters in Florida, earning them the nickname “Schmitt Stix.”

By 1979, influential pros like Brad Bowman were riding Schmitt Stix rails, and the skateboard brand gained recognition.

John Lucero and Jeff Grosso joined the Schmitt Stix team in early 1986.

Many skateboarders who started in the 1980s recall their first board being a Schmitt Stix.

The original 36-inch Yard Stix, introduced in 1987 and designed and used by Paul Schmitt, remains a highly sought-after skateboard deck. It features a unique shape and concave, making it a classic choice for pool and longboard riding. The Yard Stix reissue maintains the same shape, graphics, and concave as the original, but with modern spaced truck holes.

Schmitt Stix rails were pivotal in skateboarding’s evolution, emphasizing the importance of sliding rails (later being made from plastic) and influencing modern board design.

Schmitt Stix has always been known for consistently high-quality products and innovation. Paul Schmitt’s dedication kept the brand alive during skateboarding’s downswings in mainstream popularity.

Schmitt Stix Skateboards, is now based in California and produced under "Paul Schmitt's aka "Professor Schmitt" Skateboard deck manufacturing brand: PS Stix.

While the Schmitt Stix Skateboards prominence has evolved over the years, its legacy remains intact, especially among those who appreciate skateboarding history. The legendary skateboard brand played a crucial role in shaping skateboarding culture, and its impact is still felt today.
